Many friends and clients have expressed to me their frustrations with the fact they feel they can’t stop eating late at night.
Late night eating can be an upsetting experience because we may not really be hungry but for some reason we keep eating and we don’t know why, or it might mean going to bed uncomfortably full, which isn’t a nice sensation. So this week’s video is all about 4 very normal, human reasons for why you may be late night eating and some solutions you can consider exploring.
If you feel you’re struggling with this, please consider there is nothing inherently wrong about late night eating. There are a lot of scary headlines out there referencing studies and claiming negative health consequences and weight gain associated with late night eating. But the fact is, research in this area is small, and most of the studies being referenced have been done on shift workers, people with Late Night Eating Syndrome, or rodents. Not exactly a representation of the majority of the population!
Between these types of misleading headlines and the rising popularity of diets such as Intermittent Fasting, it’s understandable we feel we’re doing something wrong by eating at night.
But please do not let these scary headlines, diet trends or our culture’s focus on weight loss make you feel guilty about late night eating. As discussed in this video — late night eating is completely normal! So please remember to be kind and patient with yourself as you get in-tune with your body’s needs.
