In Episode 2 of the Bike Touring Turkey (Türkiye) series we explore some of Türkiye’s best known attractions like the ancient caves and churches at the Göreme Open Air Museum in Cappadocia, and the immense underground city in Derinkuyu. Plus, we decide to make a big change to our upcoming cycling route. You can watch Episode 2 HERE:
If you haven’t seen Episode 1 yet, you can catch up HERE. In Episode 1 we flew from Toronto, Canada to Kayseri, Turkey — and learned an important (but painful!) lesson on our first riding day.
Bike Touring Cappadocia
Bike touring in Cappadocia was a very special experience. Between the immense history and the other-worldly landscape, there was always something to appreciate and explore.
However, it should be said that it is a well-travelled region, and feels a bit more touristic and crowded at times. As bicycle travellers, our favourite moments tend to be those quiet roads and spaces we’re able to experience all on our own.
Fortunately, I’ve found that although it can take some creativity (and a pinch of luck) — one can almost always find a special, quiet spot in such environments. And being on a bike often helps me find them. The tucked away viewpoint we stumbled upon in Cappadocia was one of my favourites. One of the many reasons I can’t get enough of bicycle travel!
