5 Favourite Things about Cycling in the Czech Republic (VIDEO)

If you follow me over on Instagram you may know that about a month ago now I took a bad fall on my bike in Berlin. My cuts and bruises healed up quickly enough but my wrists and ribs took it the worst and I really wasn’t sure if I would be able to continue on my trip and if I did how far I would make it.

I decided to hop a train from Berlin to Dresden to give myself an extra few days to heal and from there cycle my way to the nearest big city which was Prague in the Czech Republic. I didn’t know very much about Prague, and when I had initially made my rough route through Europe I didn’t even think I would make it to the Czech Republic!

But a few easy, slow days from Dresden to Prague to see how my body felt after my fall seemed like a good test. And I figured if my wrists or ribs hurt too much and all I manage after my fall was to make it to Prague, I would celebrate and enjoy that and then head home.

But my time in the Czech Republic turned out much better than I could have ever dreamed. My wrists and ribs did well and continued healing, I cycled through the beauty of Bohemian Switzerland along the Elbe River, I made it to Prague, and I spent over a week cycling around this amazing country.

There were friendly, helpful people, bike routes a-plenty, gorgeous scenery and so much history. I truly believe everything happens for a reason and in a weird way I’m happy I took that fall. Because if I hadn’t I may never have made it to this incredible country.

I hope you enjoy this video on my 5 favourite things about cycling in the Czech Republic!

  1. Just discovered your blog and videos and am anxious to watch them. I just cycled the Czech Greenway route which was awesome. Not sure if Portugal is on your radar for cycling, but it is awesome. In April I rode an awesome route – Eurovelo 1 from Faro to Lisbon. Wow! Beautiful. Also amazing – Douro Valley in northern Portugal. PT has great food, too. Happy cycling!

    1. Hey Brent! Apologies for my delay — I just saw your message now! Thanks so much for the tip! I’ve never been to Portugal but I would certainly love to. It looks beautiful and to know it has a good cycling route too?? Now I really must go!
