I recently returned from cycling Toronto to Montreal… and wow! It did not disappoint.
It’s unfortunate to say but the truth is — having grown up in Ontario my whole life, I didn’t have much interest in exploring it.
It seemed like all the fun, beautiful places were far away and I wanted to hop on my bike and take myself to each and every one of them. But with the events of the last couple years causing me to stick closer to home, my perspective began to shift.
And thank goodness it did!
Because it’s allowed me to discover that there is truly so much beauty to be found in our own “backyards”.
This fall my partner and I decided to cycle from Toronto to Montreal along the Waterfront Trail. It was more fun and more beautiful than I could even have imagined. This route has so much to enjoy — views of Lake Ontario, rides through fields and forests, and kind, welcoming people all along the way.

Day 1 was a hilly one as we road out from Toronto and through the surrounding cities until we stopped at Cedar Valley Resort to a warm welcome and a beautiful spot to pitch our tent. The well-paved cycleways along Lake Ontario were the perfect way to start our bike tour.
On day 2 we were lucky enough to experience the kindness of strangers filling up our water bottles and cycle by fields of soon-to-be harvested Ontario crops until we finally took a rest amongst the trees at Presqu’ile Provincial Park.
Day 3 may have been our most beautiful yet as we revelled in riding along the Millenium Trail in Prince Edward County. The sun shone down as we rode the 46km of quiet, gravel trail to the Adulphustown-Glenora ferry.

Thanks much for the info! I too was supposed to take that ferry…I was on the way in the opposite direction, toward Picton. But RAIN and WIND, and almost blown off my bike with that shoreline route, so we went inland and had to ditch the ferry option. I will be trying this again in the summer of 2022 and go “your way” ! All the best! Kim
Oh man! Those sound like some tough conditions — well done for persevering! I hope you have an awesome trip next year!
