I would say I’m a pretty positive bike tourer. I sing songs to get me up steep climbs, I hunker down and tough my way along hard terrain… but if I’m wet and cold, it’s another story. Then… I turn into an absolute grump! That’s why waterproof bike touring gear is an absolute must for me.
And I am very happy to share which products are working for me, as well as how to pick out similar items for yourself.
Check out this video where I share the 7 waterproof bike touring gear items I cannot live without.

One thing I didn’t touch on in the video but I will here, is the cost of waterproof bike touring gear. Getting something good quality, that you can trust to keep you dry on the road, often doesn’t come with a cheap price tag.
Although I certainly won’t blow my whole budget on a single item, I am willing to creep a little out of my comfort zone for rain gear. My thinking is, if I see good reviews from people who have had the product for years, it’s likely going to be worth it.
Dropping a bigger chunk of change on a product that will last me 10 years makes more sense to me than constantly being unhappy with a cheap product and having to replace it 2-3 times in the same time span.
That’s been my experience but I’d love to hear yours. Let me know your thoughts and please feel free to leave any of your favourite waterproof bike touring gear in the comments below so others can snag your favourite gems too!

Excellent, excellent, excellent. I have biked a lot so know about rain. I didn’t know about rainproof socks…always just put plastice bags on my feet. I do like the vent in the rainproof jackets because several times after it rained, the temperature increased and I needed to allow air in.
Ooh that’s good to know the vents have been helpful for you! The waterproof socks have been pretty fantastic for me!
I’ve had ten years use from a Paramo Quito. Great for bike use with excellent venting. Think it’s been superseded now.
Thanks for sharing your find Ian!
